Lévy-Bruhl, Lucien (1857–1939) |
French philosopher-anthropologist. Known for his description of "primitive thought", which was, presumably, more poetic and associative, than modern, rational-logical thought. Within anthropology, Lévy-Bruhl's ideas were almost unanimously rejected; outside anthropology, however, particularly in the surrealist movement, his influence was fairly substantial. His influence may also be traced in anthropologists such as Lévi-Strauss, Evans-Pritchard and Goody.
