Paine, Robert (b. 1926) |
British-Canadian anthropologist; fieldwork among the Northern Scandinavian Saami (1951 and later); collaborated with Barth and Eidheim in the 1960's. He has written extensively on Saami subsistence, ethnicity and land rights. Later in life he has done work on political rhetoric, and on anthropological advocacy. In 1998 he was awarded an honorary doctorate at the University of Tromsø (Norway) for his contributions to the study of Norwegian Saami.
