Appadurai, Arjun (b. 1936) |
Indian-American anthropologist; fieldwork in India; Ph.D. (Chicago) 1976. Appadurai has made major contributions to studies of consumption, globalization, historical anthropology and the anthropology of violence. Among his major works are the edited volume The social life of things: Commodities in cultural perspective (1986) and the anthology Modernity at large: Cultural dimensions of modernity (1996).
