Applied anthropology |
A common term for anthropological research that is practially oriented and (often) organized and financed as projects. Applied anthropology is often contrasted with academic anthropology, which is primarily concerned with basic research: analyses that are primarily of scientific or theoretical interest. The boundaries between applied and academic anthropology are indistinct. There exists a society for applied anthropologists in the USA (The High Plains Society for Applied Anthropology - see http://www.hpsfaa.org/).
